Falling Creek Blacksmith Guild evolved from a small group of former blacksmithing students who wanted to continue their blacksmithing endeavors and the camaraderie they had established during their years of instruction under George Matthews. The group approached Falling Creek Camp for Boys about using the camp’s blacksmith shop as their meeting place. The Guild is extremely grateful to the owners, directors, and staff at Falling Creek Camp for this generous agreement and their enthusiastic support for our purpose.

Falling Creek Camp for Boys (see feature article and cover of the August 6, 2007 issue of Time Magazine) is located in Tuxedo, North Carolina, on an idyllic 150 acre campus and provides a full range of activities and services for campers.

"JOHN'S JABBER" - A Message from Our President:

We survived our first meeting after the summer break on August 23 with 20 people present and participating, including our two newest members, Steve and Robert; and two guests, Eli and Rick.   A big welcome from all of us to Steve and Robert; and, to Eli and Rick, we look forward to seeing you two again REALLY soon!

One of the big things on our agenda for the upcoming September 20 meeting is to organize our demonstration for Farm City Day at Jackson Park on October 4.  We would like to plan on having 2 or 3 forges working and we will certainly need many volunteers to keep them busy all day.  Just as we did at the Johnson Farms demonstration, any of our hand forged items can be on display and for sale to the public.

A big heartfelt hug and many prayers go out from us to our members Hugh, Rudy, and George.  Hugh is undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments.  Rudy continues with his treatments for pancreatitis.  George has just undergone his total knee replacement surgery and is struggling to recover quickly.

I would like to take this opportunity to call your attention to the SAFETY FIRST AND FOREMOST section on the FCBG Notes of Importance page on this web site.  It is extremely important that we  adhere to these basic safety rules as we are working in and around the fires and with our equipment.  We teach by example and we need to remember to "show" as well as "tell" the importance of working safely!

That's all I have for now but if I think of something else, I'll be sure let you know!

John
